SpaceX CEO Elon Musk Announces First Private Passenger flight To The Moon

SpaceX’s Moon Tourism – Elon Musk Announces The First Passenger

It has been almost half a century after we send the first human to our neighborhood celestial body – “Moon”.

The Americans sent 12 men to the moon between 1969 and 1972. Yes, it was the time in the history when U.S and Soviet Union were vying for space supremacy. At the time, computers were so primitive that even our smartphones today, have more processing power than supercomputers at the time.

Despite all these advancements in computing, we did not see anyone sent back to the moon after then.

Not anymore !!

SpaceX has announced it’s first passenger to travel to moon.

And, he is not an astronaut – nor anyone with scientific history – he is a Japanese entrepreneur and an art collector, Yusaku Maezawa.

Moon Before Mars

Elon Musk has never hidden his desire to send people to space and make space tourism a reality.

All the hypes were around sending people to the Mars …

… which was expected to be possible around 2030.

Now, their plan seems to have changed slightly – as they are sending a tourist to Moon first.

SpaceX’s round-the-moon mission aboard has been named “Big Falcon Rocket” (BFR).  The Lunar BFR is about 387 feet tall and can fit around 100 people at a time. Of course, at this time they will only send limited crew members – leaving space for extra fuel, food, and other necessary things.

Elon Musk estimates around $5 billion to get off the ground.

An undisclosed (still, a large chunk of) amount comes directly from Yusaku’s flight ticket.

About “Yusaku Maezawa”

Yusaku Maezawa is a billionaire entrepreneur from Japan and an art collector. Aged 42, the business tycoon is believed to have a net worth of $3.6 billion, which makes him the 14th richest person in Japan.

He is the founder of the online fashion retail website named “Zozotown”, which he founded in 2004.

Yusaku has created a new website dedicated to this project.

In the website, he mentions that he chooses to go to moon, with artists.

He asks through the site –

“If Pablo Picasso had been able to see the moon up-close,
what kind of paintings would he have drawn?

If John Lennon could have seen the curvature of the Earth,
what kind of songs would he have written? “

We can find information about the project – any updates or changes through this website.
